Patrick R. Donahoe, Deputy Postmaster General & COO, released the following information in a letter dated July 20, 2009:

On July 17, Phase I of our Bulk Mail Center (BMC) network transformation will be complete. The network transformation has resulted in significant service improvement and has positioned us to save millions in both transportation and operating expenses. As a result of our success in Phase I, we have accelerated the national implementation to be completed by the end of calendar year 2009.

In concert with the operational changes currently taking place, effective August 1, all BMCs will be renamed Network Distribution Centers (NDCs). All BMC related materials and correspondence should be updated to reflect the name change. In addition, all system owners should begin the process of conforming to the new NDC naming convention.
